A Refrigerator Not Cooling Could Mean a Lot of Things

Going in search of a bite to eat and finding that your refrigerator isn’t cooling properly can be frustrating. But it doesn’t necessarily require an immediate call to a refrigerator repair technician. When you’re dealing with a refrigerator that’s not cold enough, here’s a checklist you can run down to determine the source of the issue:

  • For starters, locate your unit’s temperature control setting and dial it up a degree or two to see if conditions improve. If you’re not sure where to find this feature on your model, refer to the appliance manual that came with your fridge.
  • Next, make sure nothing is keeping your refrigerator door from closing all the way. Containers inside the fridge can sometimes block the door from completely shutting. Also look to see that door gaskets are clean and seal sufficiently. A partially open door can allow cool air to escape, giving the impression that the refrigerator is not cooling enough.
  • It’s also a good idea to clean condenser coils on older models. Your refrigerator can’t perform efficiently when condenser coils are caked with dust and dirt. Remember to unplug your refrigerator first for safety.
  • Other possible causes of a refrigerator not cooling correctly could be that it lacks adequate air clearance in its current location, big items inside the fridge are blocking the unit’s airflow, or it’s installed in a garage or other setting where the temperature is too cold.

Once you’ve gone over these basics on your residential refrigerator, you should know whether or not you’re in need of professional fridge repairs. If that’s a yes, contact Mike’s Appliances as soon as possible. We’re your source in Suffolk for both routine and emergency refrigerator repair service.
